It’s not always easy to stay very healthy, and it can also be very costly to get the right medicines, treatments and cures that you or your family may need. People with especially bad health have ended up getting into a lot of debt trying to find cures and treatment for their problems. Once you’re on the road to clearing your debts, you can work on staying healthier and getting better in a cheaper way.
1. Drinking water helps a lot
Water can cure a lot of problems, and by drinking eight glasses each day, you can stay healthy for a very long time. Not only does it help to clean out your internal organs, it also helps your skin to retain its elasticity (great for those who are trying to lose a large amount of weight and don’t want saggy skin) and ensures you stay hydrated throughout the summer months. Keep the sugary drinks and tea and coffee to a minimum and try to get through a two-litre bottle of water each day.
2. A little bit of exercise each day is good
This is common knowledge for most people, but walking for just half an hour each day can significantly reduce the chance of you getting heart disease and diabetes, among other problems. It also helps to keep your weight at a healthy level, and staying fit is great for your lungs, muscles and overall health.
3. Get better quality sleep
You might get eight or more hours of sleep each night, but is it quality sleep? You may wonder why you feel tired when you seem to get a lot of sleep throughout the week. However, do you seem to have one or two bad nights at the weekend? This can make things harder for you during the week. Do you seem to wake up during the night for the toilet or other things? Broken sleep can be bad for you too. If your sleep doesn’t seem to be of a very good quality, have a look at what seems to be disturbing your nightly doze and try to fix it.
4. Eat seeds and nuts
Don’t eat too many of these, since they can be full of calories. However, having a few nuts each day is very good for you, since they’ll full of protein and other great things. Eating seeds and nuts will also help you to have a more balanced diet. There are plenty of types to choose from as well – try hazelnuts, Brazil nuts, cashew nuts, sunflower seeds and peanuts, to name just a few!
5. Limit your alcohol intake
You won’t cause massive problems if you have the occasional drink now and then, but making a habit out of your favourite glass of wine will soon have drastic consequences. Limit the amount of times you go out partying or clubbing, and when you spend time socialising with friends, go easy on the alcohol and supplement it with soft drinks. In terms of smoking and other drugs, don’t start this at all and if you’re already smoking, try to quit it completely. See your doctor if you think you have a smoking addiction and see if there are any programs available to you which you can take part in.
6. Make healthier choices
Instead of taking the elevator every single time you go to the office, take the stairs instead. Have a break from driving for one or two days in the week and travel by bus. Not only is this better for the environment, but you’ll have to walk to the bus stop and then to your place of work once you get off the bus, so you’ll be getting in more exercise too. If you’ve walked enough commuting to work, you won’t have to make time in the evening to do your daily workout. If you have a bicycle, opt to ride it to work for one day each week – again, a great way to get exercise into your daily routine without it taking up too much extra time.
7. Try meditating
Wake up slightly earlier each day and try meditating. This works particularly well if you’re stressed out in your job or in your place of education. Meditating and using those few extra minutes to relax can work wonders for you, both mentally and physically. There are many benefits of meditating which makes it such a popular practice around the world. You can always decide you don’t like it and would rather not do it, so why not give it a go? It might work perfectly for you!
8. Get a pet
Pets can be very good for getting in some more exercise, especially if you struggle to discipline yourself. If you get a dog which requires exercise each day, you’ll be forced to get out of the house and walk around. People who want to lose some extra pounds often get a pet, and you’ll find that you’ll receive a lot of love from it too, which will make you feel great. If you find yourself quite lonely and you don’t have many family members and friends who live close by, a dog can take away any feelings of loneliness and give you a feeling of self-worth.
9. Look after your skin, teeth and nails
While you might think your fingernails and toenails don’t matter that much, you can actually get serious problems if you don’t look after them properly. You should always ensure that your nails are cut to a proper length, and giving yourself a quick manicure or pedicure every now and then won’t hurt. Make sure you have regular visits to the dentist to make sure your teeth are in the best possible condition, and invest a bit of money each year or two in having them professionally cleaned and polished.
